Around the old neighborhood of Jalan Imbi lies a a row of famous Bak Kut Teh Shops.

Attracting from locals to tourist all around the world , mainly the Chinese .

Located next to the famous Sun Fong Bak Kut Teh .. I very much prefer Ah Hei Bak Kut Teh located just next to it.

Bak Kut Teh =肉骨茶?

Before I talk any further about how good this place is.

Let me explain to you what is bak kut teh literally translates to meaty bone tea. Which I can assure you , it taste much better then it sounds.

According to the reliable Wikipedia , "The name literally translates from hokkien (dialect) as "meat bone tea", and at its simplest, consists of meaty ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic) for hours.Despite its name, there is in fact no tea in the dish itself; the name refers to a strong oolong Chinese tea which is usually served alongside the soup in the belief that it dilutes or dissolves the copious amount of fat consumed in this pork-laden dish. "

The difference between stalls or restaurants are each of them have unique take to it.

There are three types of BKT.

1) Teo-chew Style : Light in color as they use more pepper and garlic in the soup. (Popular in Singapore)

2) Hokkien Style : Uses a variety of herbs and soy sauce creating a more fragrant , textured and darker Soup

3) Cantonese Style : Medicated type of stronger flavoured soup.

So why Ah Hei BKT?

I preferred my soup based to be thick and strong . The meat served in the claypot were really tender and flavorful which made the meal truly enjoyable. And I love the consistency of the restaurant. I go there quite often to realized that the lady boss cuts and preps the meat herself.

Overall..

There are plenty of BKT Stalls out there, being a BKT Fan myself I would say Ah Hei BKT is definitely my favorites in Kuala Lumpur .

4.5/5 Stars Recommended.
